Ben Ownby, Shawn Hornbeck Both Found Alive!!!

Thank you Lord for finding these boys alive! I can't stop these goosebumps or the tears of both joy and sadness - but mostly joy. I am an advocate of helping to find missing children. And this one hit so close to home. Having children of my own I find it so hard to imagine what these boys went through and the recovery that is yet to come. I can't imagine what their parents have gone through and the process that they will endure for the boys recovery. Yet I'm so elated! They're ALIVE!!!!!

My appreciation goes out to all the eyes and ears in St. Louis and to all the prayers said by so many around the country. From the bottom of my soul, thank you Lord!!!!

It's the small things in life......

Since we've been kind of stuck at home without power for four days now - I've read an entire book, cleaned dishes by HAND, have gone three days (yes, I know - GROSS) without a real shower, and have taken alot of great pictures of the snow and ice that we got on Nov. 30th and Dec. 1st. Here is one of them I wanted to share with all of you.

I took a few pictures of this doe - she was standing in our front yard. Actually made me forget about the stench coming off of my body.

P.S. I actually miss cooking and laundry. :(

St. Francis doesn't look so happy does he? It's because he's been iced on for the past 6 hours! We have another 12-16 hours left of this stuff and hopefully we can keep our electricity here overnight. I'll get another picture of Francis when we get our snow tomorrow morning.

Typically, I would be really happy about this weather because I haven't seen anything like it in so long. However; I've been without my husband since Monday morning and was anticipating his arrival this evening. Have I said that it's been icing for 6 hours? He's stuck in Minnesota tonight. Leaving me sad and bored for one more night. Just goes to show you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.

Since Mom and Dad take off to Winter Snowbird Land every year, we had Christmas early (really early) this year. The kids were quite pleased with throwing Thanksgiving and Christmas together all in one weekend. And I wanted to blog these pictures of them for future use on how thankful they were for their early Christmas. Somehow for me though, it feels like it's over, Christmas that is. I'll make the best of it as I always do. But to all of you out there getting ready for the hustle and bustle......Merry Christmas to you and make the best of it and always remember that it is the thought that counts.

In the midst of a pretty fair day, I see this.... Britney Files for Divorce. It's about flippin' time!

I mean, she is much younger than me - so there is instant semi-jealousy. Yes, at times she was my inspiration for wanting to take care of my body and at the same time I was hoping that she'd turn into a fat, ugly, smoking cigs, drinking too much hog, and then came Federline. Yuck!! Now I feel somewhat guilty for all those horrible thoughts I had wished upon her. Bad Debi!!

Anyway, all is well that ends well. I just hope she can get back on track with her former career. I also hope that she has half a brain to take care of those babies.

We winterized the camper last Sunday and here it is Thursday evening and I have nothing to look forward to. The rating will not keep me away and it certainly doesn't want to make me leave any sooner. The weather here, on the other hand, I can leave far far behind. Today 78, tomorrow 50. Yuck!

It's been a long time coming. The Cardinals did it!! I've waited 24 LONG years to see this day again. I remember the last time we won the World Series in '82. I remember exactly where I was standing, who was in the room with me, and the perfect celebratory dance that I danced.

This year was a little different for me. We were camping at Onondaga State Park and had horrible television reception so I was unable to watch my team take their victory. I did; however, listen to the game on the radio on the dark. What a game!! What a victory!!

This feels absolutely amazing. We've come so close so many times in the past and choked on our own egos. This year, we didn't let our egos get the best of us. I don't think anyway. I don't think our players ever took our eyes of the goal. And they did it!!! It feels so good to be a Cardinals fan. Not only do we have the best team in baseball - we have the best fans too.

I'm done victory blogging now. I have to go watch our celebration at Kiener Plaza and Busch Stadium. I'll be at home unpacking from our weekend camping trip but I'll be at Busch Stadium in my heart.

"You must be bold!" That's what two men said to me as I left my car Saturday morning walking into Costco in Grandville, Michigan, some 160 miles from Detroit. Surely they weren't talking about the fact that I, a father of two, was taking my boys (Easton 5 ½ and Hudson 13 months) shopping without my wife in tow. Same response again as I picked up a pizza at Papa John's hours later on my way back home. "You must be bold!"

By then it was obvious they were talking about my St.L Cardinals pullover jacket and my son's red Cardinal birds on the bat t-shirt.personalized with "E. Francis 1" on the back. A copycat shirt of the "O. Smith 1" jersey now hanging in Cardinals history forever.

There we were, just a few hours before the first pitch of Game 1 of the World Series, and I'm the only Cardinal fan in Tiger Land. Bold? Nah, just a proud, non-bandwagon fan who still hasn't unpacked from his visit to the Gateway City (450 miles) last weekend for Games 3 and 4 against the Mets. (My third straight year attending the NLCS).

Bold might be the word to describe me back in the 1980's after relocating to New Jersey from Ballwin, MO at the age of 9 1/2. Then it was me, my brother and my Dad in Shea Stadium at the height of the Cards/"Pond-Scum" Mets rivalry. Sitting in the upper deck back on 9/11/85, the only ones applauding a home run by Cesar Cedeno in the top of the 10th inning against Jesse Orosco (relieving Dwight Gooden), leading the Cards to a 10 inning 1-0 complete game victory by John Tudor. That was bold!

Rooting for the then pathetic and still pathetic football Cardinals at Giants Stadium each year, all for naught. Cheering on the Blues in Madison Square Garden as a 14 year old, again the only one wearing "enemy" clothing, being called an a** h**** by a female Ranger fan in her early 20's. And you're supposed to be the adult here, I thought? Those were my bold days!

But now, living in West Michigan, a place where even the loyalist of Tiger fans wasn't sold on their team until about the All-Star break..that's not bold! That's easy! As a morning news anchor with the ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids, there's no hiding the fact that I'm a Cardinals fan. All you have to do is look at the smile on my face, (underneath all those bags) after any late victory during the regular or post-season. (Eastern time really stinks for sporting events if your alarm goes off at 3:15am).

Having attended one game of the Cards-Tigers game this past June at Comerica Park, I learned they're a lot classier and more gracious than any East Coast fan I've come across. Even after Izzy blew a 9th inning lead on a 2 run home run and Placido Polanco would eventually beat us in extra innings, the fans didn't dare say anything negative to me or my overly tired son who was patiently waiting for the post-game fireworks. Instead of chants of "ah-hah!" or "you came all this way to see your team lose!?" or some of the swear words I've heard too often in Philadelphia and New York, all the Tiger fans could say was, "You guys are always good, finally it's our turn too."

Nothing negative and class-less to say about their opponent, only sheer excitement for THEIR team who'd been in the pits for more than a dozen years. That's one reason why, had the Cardinals not pulled off these two upsets over the Padres and Mets, I would have had no problem rooting for "the home team" in the fall classic. Who wouldn't have loved to see the Tigers knock off the high price Mets? But thanks to some October magic, the Cardinals are making it fun and easy to be a Cards fan in Tiger land.

p.s. Now see me in one week IF the Tigers win the series! I could have a whole new perspective by then.

I felt a special need to give a shout out to all of St. Louis on Gigglechick's site (which, by the way, she screens before posting - whore - I mean "Stacey). "Stacey" (aka "I didn't get enough attention as a child") took it upon herself to out me and other St. Louis Cardinals fans out there by hoping that our baseball team chokes. That's not very sportsman-like. "Stacey", I just want you to know that all of the fans here in STL are great sportsmen. We never hope that anyone chokes. It was brought to my attention that I am a bad fanatic today. However, I do seem to think it may be partially because of my superstition that I didn't post about my favorite sports team in the WORLD! Seriously, most people would point and laugh at the many things I do to prepare for the games ahead. Which includes all things from my attire down to the way I sit to watch the game (it's not just in my head - the games all rides on the way I position my fingers while watching the game).

Though the way I really look at it this season, we are winners here. We won the National League Championship and THAT COUNTS. The fact that we are in the World Series facing the #1 team in the American League is really something to be happy about.

I can go on and on about the Cards - but I may start to cry tears of joy again. So......GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!! I love you guys! All of you!

Just got back from our trip to the farm in Kirksville, MO. We had alot of fun. Ate too much, as always. Drank too much, typical. Swam some and searched for our horse, Seren Aiden. Found her out in the field hanging out with her mom Jackie and the cows. Seren is the Golden Palomino on the left. I wish we could bring her home with us, but we just don't have the time for her.

It was a short weekend and I'm pretty sure that with all the eating and drinking I'm not ready for the Monday weigh-in. Only 9 lbs. or so to go and I blow it almost every weekend. ARRGGGHHHH!!!!

An honest man was being tailgated by a stressed out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection. The tailgating woman hit the roof, and the horn, screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to get through the intersection.

As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, finger printed, photographed, and placed in a holding cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects. He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. "I noticed the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk. Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car."

I just read this article today about everything that will be going up for auction from St. Louis' Busch Stadium.

I know that I can't be the only St. Louisan that feels as strongly as I do about Busch Stadium. This is one of the very many places that makes me feel "at home". This is one of the very few places where I feel at one with all of the beautiful people I share this city with. If only I had the money to buy an entire kitchen from the stadium..... what a nice dream that is.... Yeah - that's not going to happen soon enough. I quit smoking June 23, 2004. I have done a really good job not letting the worst get to me too. I have been in around smoking friends, in bars, family situations, etc. and haven't given in. I've driven by gas stations, bars, liquor stores, and haven't given in. I started my new job and they allow smoking inside the offices. I feel myself wanting to cave. All the smokers are more than willing to help me cave. Do I go back to the hypnotist that helped me stop? I really don't feel the willpower anymore that helped me quit. Should I go to bed with my prayer to God and the picture of the smoked lung that helped me quit in the first place? I'm asking for everyone's opinion now - thanks and God Bless.

An Apology to All

I have to sincerely apologize for not posting lately. Things have been so busy with me physically and mentally. My boss took this picture of me on my lunch hour today. See how busy I am??? I left for work at 6:45 a.m., got home at 4:35 p.m., made dinner for all, need to redress and get out of here by 5:30 this evening to get Taylor to cheerleading practice by 6:00. Riley and I will be swimming until 7:30 p.m. and then off to get Taylor. I need to stop at Walgreens for Rodney on the way home and will hopefully make it back here by 8:15 or so.

Penny's in Heaven

I remember when I was 10 years old and my dad let all of us kids know that we were leaving Memphis and moving to St. Louis. I was really sad because my brother and sister were so upset and I was positive that I didn't want to leave either. Then my dad told me about the St. Louis Zoo and how it was one of the best in our country. For those of you that don't know me - I tend to like animals more than I like people. Always have and probably always will.

I love the St. Louis Zoo and can't count how many times I've been in the last 24 years. It's nice because it's free. It's a beautiful zoo too. The animals always seem to be happy (as happy as an animal can be out of the wild). I love every single living thing at that zoo and I even like to see the spiders that I'm so petrified of.

My favorite animals of all to watch are the polar bears that we have. One of them seems to have OCD and it's just so fun to watch him swim back and forth in his peculiar little way. I believe his name was Churchill, he died in May. They found cloth in his stomach. How the f!#@ does cloth get into their home? (See how I get agitated at the stupidity of people?)

Today, I was reading the news and found that Penny, the Polar Bear, has died too. Now Penny apparently had two dead fetuses in her tummy, which caused an infection and a fatal eruption of her uterus. Who the HELL is taking care of these poor animals????

I wear leather, I eat meat, and I'm no PETA fan. But for God's sake - WTF??? I'm fixin' to walk inside the zoo and hunt down the people responsible and beat them with a club!

I am no longer a fan of the St. Louis Zoo and don't know if I can really ever go their again. You should here about why I don't go to horse races anymore. Now that's a sad story.

I'm steaming!!! I need to go take a nice shower.

There will be a lack of posts this evening. I was brushing my hair this morning and my neck/back went out without me. My doctor has put me on Vicodin. I'm seeing double and off to bed.

Update: Apparently I had some kind of reaction to Vicodin. I was in the middle of my shower this morning (conditioner still in my hair) when I made a mad dash to the toilet. At this point, I am wishing that someone would trade me backs. Anyone....anyone?

Happy Saturday to all! I am quite exhausted already and it's only 3:00p. Took the boys to Six Flags today and had a great time. Rode a few water rides so that we didn't melt in the 100 degree heat. I feel somewhat water-logged. Now I'm off to have an afternoon nip (not a nap, a nip) and sit by the tube. Hope you all are having a great weekend. Will post more later.

I apologize to my readers for my lack of posting. I also would like to wish all the Fathers out there a Belated Happy Fathers Day. You see, yesterday I was taking care of the fathers in my life and ran out of time to blog and today I started my new job. As soon as I get adjusted at the newest place of employment I will be sure to get right back on the blogging horse.

Here's the latest scoop:

I think I'm going to like my new job. Everyone there seems really nice and eager to help out the newby.
I sent my daughter off to Florida yesterday. She has yet to call her nerve-wracked mommy.
My son has wrestling camp through Friday, so I'm missing him this week too. *sniff-sniff*
My stepson will be spending a little time with my baby boy over the next two days. Poor guy is getting more bored by the minute - but we'll try and make up for that this weekend.
Rodney and I planted 16 new shrubs yesterday and today and they look fantastic. I will post pictures when I'm caught up with my other stuff.

That's about all I can think of right now. I'm going to go hunt for stuff for all of you to look at/play/read.

Oh.....to all of my IM buddies...I have not forgotten you. When my training slows down I'll be able to get my IM back up and running.

I was going down memory lane for a bit this morning. Here are a few pictures of my Bowser when he was a pup (all three pounds of him). He's a Toy Fox Terrier and one of the best dogs I ever had. However, when ignored he had his own cute little ways of getting back at the ignorer. I would still have him today but I had to choose between him and my daughter. You see, she ignored him continuosly one day so he poo'd on her bed. She gave me an ultimatum that day - her or Bowser.

I sure miss that little guy.

This is my dear husband's newest project. Last month we found a new love for bonsai's. This month, Rodney has put this little guy from our side yard into this cup. We are hoping that this will be our newest lifelong project. Our Colorado Blue Spruce Bonsai. For the record, all of my plants, trees, kids, etc. have names. I think we'll name this one 小さいマツ. We'll also welcome any names from you. Wish him luck.

Today will be slow on the posts. I went to Nick's wake yesterday evening and met everyone at the bar after the wake. What a blast from the past! It was very exhausting and ever so sad. Doesn't it just figure. I walk into my office this morning at 7:30 a.m. It's already 90 degrees in the place.....AND.....I realize I forgot to put deodorant on. This will be a test to see just how feminine I can be today. Because if the office is 90 when I get in - this sucker's gonna get really hot by 4:30.

I'm off on another road trip. This one is about a 5 hour trip. So it's not as bad as the last one (crossing my fingers). We're on our way to pick up my stepson. He'll be staying with us through July. He's 12 and my son's 11 and they get along great. With the two of them together they seem to stay out of Taylor's hair and she appreciates that.

Pray that there aren't any raccoons on a suicide mission. If that works out, I'll be back to posting as usual.
